Daniel Allen Freeman, III, of Norwell, formerly of New York City, 86, died peacefully at his home on Monday, November 20, 2017; also his 86th birthday. Born to Daniel Allen Freeman, II, of Brookline, and Grace Dabney Wrenn, of Boston, he was the grandson of the late tennis champion, Robert D. Wrenn. Dan was raised in New York, graduating from Middlesex School in Concord, MA. Enlisting with his best friend, Frank Crocker, Dan served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War from 1951 to 1954, reaching the rank of Sergeant. After proudly serving as a Marine, Dan went on to graduate from Yale University in 1957 with a degree in Engineering. Dan worked for Pan-Am, as an engineer, and went on to work and retire from GTE in Newton Highlands. Dan was a great Harvard Hockey fan, as well as a model train enthusiast. Dan had a deep love for the ocean and imparted that love onto his sons over a lifetime of summers in Southampton, NY. His family and friends knew Dan as a man of great ingenuity and he always had a story to tell of grand times gone by. He is survived by his loving wife, Sybilla Freeman, of Norwell, as well as his sons and their families, Peter S. Freeman, and wife Anne Marie, of Quincy and Robert G. Freeman and wife Kellie, of Quincy, as well as two grandsons, Nathan and Evan, and one granddaughter, Charlotte.
