Donald Sears Hudson, age 90, of Norwell died peacefully on Thursday, March 9, 2017, with his family around him at the Pat Roche Hospice House, Hingham. He was the husband of Camille Prescott Hudson, who survives him and to whom he was married for 68 years.

Don was born June 7, 1926 in Boston the son of the late Elisha Sears Hudson and Ruth Litchfield Hudson. He grew up in Wollaston, graduated from North Quincy High School and attended Northeastern University.

He served in the United States Navy as a Quartermaster on an LST for 27 months during World War II in the South Pacific Theater, and he received several bronze stars from his tour of duty. He was a life-long member of the United States LST Association, enjoying their yearly conventions. He was also a life-long member of the Wollaston American Legion, playing in their Drum and Bugle Corps during his high school years. 

He worked for Pneumatic Scale Corporation of North Quincy as a mechanical engineer for over 43 years, designing packaging machinery, acquiring several patents, and retiring in 1989.

He was a resident of Norwell for 55 years, and a charter member of the Norwell United Church of Christ.

Don was an avid sports fan with his favorites being the Patriots and Red Sox. He played football at North Quincy High School, helped to organize the original Norwell Youth Hockey program and participated in the Norwell Boosters Club.

He is also survived by his son, Robert Donald Hudson and his wife Gretchen, of Mountain Lakes, NJ, his daughter, Nancy Hudson Walkins and her husband Harold, of Lovettsville, VA, a granddaughter, Ashley Hudson of South Boston, a grandson, Gregory Hudson of Hoboken, NJ, and several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his sister, Virginia Hudson Holloway of Wilmington, NC.

Family and Friends will gather to celebrate Don during visiting hours on Thursday, March 23, 2017 from 3-7 pm in McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 30 Central St. (Rt. 123, near State Police Barracks), Norwell Center. A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, March 24, 2017 at 1 pm at Washington Street Cemetery, Norwell, followed immediately by a Memorial Service at 2 pm at the United Church of Christ, Congregational, 460 Main Street, Norwell. In lieu of flowers, donations to honor Don may be made to American Legion Post 192, P.O. Box 892, Norwell, MA 02061, or a charity of one’s choice.
