James Joseph McLaughlin

James Joseph “Jim” McLaughlin, 81, of Cohasset, MA and Howth, Ireland died surrounded by his loving family and friends on June 22, 2016. He was born in Derry, Ireland to Hugh and Tessie McLaughlin. He married Mary Walsh of Waterford in July 1967. He immigrated to Boston in his early 20s, attended Bentley College and received his B.A. in Accounting and CPA certificate.  

 

He began work at Price Waterhouse and spent the remainder of his career at United Brands/Chiquita, where he retired as Controller. He was active in his Church and community, and Treasurer of the Cohasset Historical Society. He enjoyed Harvard Active in Retirement, sailing, and golfing at Widows Walk Golf Course.

 

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and brother Hugh Michael “Mickey”. He is survived by his devoted wife, Mary, children Criona (San Francisco), Sinead (Boston), Seamus (Dublin), Heather (Boston), siblings Sr. Patricia (Galway), Patrick (Montreal), Noel (Galway), Liam (Hingham), and John (Vancouver), their spouses and many beloved nieces and nephews.

 

The funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at 9:30AM at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Cohasset, MA. Visiting hours Friday, June 24, 2016 4-7PM at McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 160 So. Main St., Cohasset, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Chahta Foundation - Summer School Program or the Norwell VNA and Hospice. Please specify “in memory of Jim McLaughlin” Special thanks to Dr. Nancy Donovan (Brigham and Women’s Hospital) and the Norwell Hospice staff for their wonderful care.
