Janet L. (Blake) Grady

Janet L. Grady (Blake) age 81, of Scituate passed away peacefully with family members by her side on Saturday, July 9, 2016.  Born in Boston on July 19, 1934, Janet was the daughter of the late Edward F. Blake, Sr. and the late Mildred Blake.

Janet grew up in the Neponset section of Dorchester where she played trumpet for the St. Anne’s Marching Band.   She attended Hyde Park High School graduating in the Class of 1952, followed by Boston Clerical School completing a two year program in eighteen months.  During her career, Janet worked at the Boston Record American, the New England Telephone Company, and most notably spent many years as an office administrator at Babson College in Wellesley.   In her earlier years, Janet was an avid figure skater, and in fact was offered a tryout with the Ice Capades, and also was the founder and president of the Holliston Girls’ Figure Skating Program in the 1970s.    She also worked as a volunteer on the John F. Kennedy presidential campaign, was a lover of animals and nature, and was a talented artist.  Janet was always drawn to the ocean and loved living in Scituate.

Most important of all to Janet, she cherished being a proud and dedicated mother and grandmother and considered this to be her life’s work.  She leaves her son, Edward J. Grady, Jr. and his wife Donna of Walpole, along with her grandchildren Brenna and Kendall.    She also leaves her daughter, Suzanne L. Baker and her husband Kenneth of Scituate along with her grandchildren Jenna and Ryan.  Janet is also survived by her brother, Edward F. Blake, Jr. and his wife Bonnie, of Burlington.

Services will be private.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in Janet’s memory can be made to the Pat Roche Hospice Home, 86 Turkey Hill Road, Hingham, MA 02043.
