Joseph S. Hanak

Joseph S Hanak, age 86 of Norwell Massachusetts passed away on May 28, 2016 at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, survived by his wife Klara O Hanak, children, Clara Hanak and her late husband Richard of Rockland, Joseph Hanak, MD and his partner Mario of Boston and George Hanak MD and wife Zita and grandchildren Christopher, Claudia, Cynthia and Matthew of Wesley Chapel, FL,  his brothers Andrew Hanak of Slovakia and Emery Hanak and wife Elizabeth of Trumbull CT and other relatives in Hungary.

 

Joseph Hanak was born in Hungary in 1930, was the first in his family to attend and graduate from the University of Debrecen, obtaining a degree in Chemistry; then worked in Budapest.  He was a proud Hungarian and participated in the Hungarian Revolution in 1956 to soon after escape on foot via Austria, to then come to the United States where he again re-connected with Klara, got married and started a new family here in America.  He was very proud of his new country and appreciated freedom.  Working as a chemist, he was considered in the industry to be among the few experts in the field of aerosols, working for Schick, then the Colton Company and finishing his career working for the Gillette Company in South Boston.  

 

Services will be held with a wake on June 9, 2016 from 5-8 PM in McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 30 Central St (off Rt. 123, near the State Police Barracks) Norwell Center and Funeral Mass on Friday June 10, 2016 at 10 am in Saint Helen’s Church 383 Washington St, Norwell, MA.   In lieu of flowers the family asked that  donations can be given to honor the memory of  Mr. Joseph Hanak and in appreciation for the care he received at Mass General Hospital, can be sent to the Massachusetts General Hospital,  MGH Development Office, 125 Nashua St. Ste. 540 Boston, MA 02114.
