Kathleen Julie McArdle

 Kathleen J. McArdle, 81, of Scituate, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 24, 2017.  Born in Boston, MA on May 13, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Thomas F. and Margaret H. (Kelly) McArdle.  Kathleen was pre-deceased by her sisters Marie Harrigan and JoAnne Lennon, her brother Thomas E. McArdle and brother in law Paul Harrigan all of Scituate.  She is survived by her brother John (Jay) McArdle of West Falmouth and her sister in law and dear friend Muriel McArdle of Scituate. Kathleen is also survived by her loving nieces and nephews who were more like her own children as were their spouses; Kathleen and Dave Stevenson, Julie Lennon and Richard Libardoni, Paul Harrigan, Patricia and John Burke, Mary Ellen (Mel) and Terry Horan, Jeanie and Bob Beane and Tom and Susan McArdle.  She is also survived by twelve great nieces and nephews, who were her grandchildren: Kelly Beane, Molly Horan, Mathew Burke, Paul Harrigan, Teddy Horan, Andrew Burke, Bobby Beane, Cuinn Stevenson, Tommy McArdle, Nolan McArdle, Cameron McArdle and Maeve Stevenson.  Aunt Kath was a big part of her “grandkids” lives, she attended so many events, baseball games, ballet performances, First Holy Communions, too many birthday parties to count and so much more!  She simply loved being a part of their lives.

The McArdle family spent many wonderful Summers in Scituate and happy Winters in Dorchester before moving to Scituate as full-time residents.  Kathleen was a graduate of St. Gregory's High School in Dorchester and later earned her College degree at Emanuel College in Boston and a Master’s Degree at Northeastern. Kathleen taught at The Cushing Hall School in Scituate and spent many a night “tutoring” anyone that needed help in school.  After leaving her teaching career she worked for many years in the Human Resources Department of the Boston Globe, chiefly in the financial area on the stock conversion of the Globe to New York Times. After her retirement, she maintained a very active life and had many wonderful friends in Scituate. Kath was a parishioner of St. Mary of the Nativity Church in Scituate, was a member of the Scituate Country Club where she loved to golf. She was active in bowling, water aerobics, weekly card games and was an avid reader.  She loved going down to Foxwoods and loved visiting new places and being on the go! She especially loved visiting the Cape and spending time with her dear cousin, Marie (Downs) Bagley and close friend John Shields. Kath loved watching Boston sports and her all-time favorite was the Patriots – she hardly missed a game.  Kath led a very active and engaged life.  She gave so much love and support to her family and was loved deeply by her family and friends.  She will truly be missed but her spirit will live on in all who loved her.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Kathleen during visiting hours on Thursday, Sept. 28, 2017 from 4-8 pm in McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 160 So. Main St. (across from St. Anthony Church), Cohasset. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, Sept. 29, 2017 at 10 am in St. Mary of the Nativity Church, 1 Kent St., Scituate Harbor, MA. Interment private.  In lieu of flowers you can donate in Kathleen’s honor to the Scituate Public Library or The American Red Cross for the Hurricane Relief efforts.
