Welcome to the memorial page for

Lloyd William Prescott

November 11, 1926 ~ February 9, 2017 (age 90) 90 Years Old

Lloyd William Prescott of Cohasset and then Scituate died on February 9, 2017 surrounded by his four daughters. A business man and entrepreneur, Lloyd was born in Traverse City, Michigan 11/11/1926.  He joined the merchant marines at the age of 17 during WWII, and it was there that he was proud to learn and use Morse code and celestial navigation.   He graduated from Kings Point Merchant Marine Academy in 1946 and stayed involved with his beloved Academy as a recruiter and class reporter.  Lloyd sailed with Moore-McCormack Shipping Line, and later served in various capacities in the cordage industry, befriending many fishermen, lobstermen, and farmers as they sought the ideal twine and rope for the work at hand.  In the 1970’s Lloyd founded FISH EXPO, the first trade show of its kind in the United States.  For the past 25 years he had owned and operated P & E Associates, importing agricultural and marine supplies and working a great deal with Portugal importing twine and cordage.  He was often consulted by the Boston police department when rope was used in a crime as his knowledge of cordage was extensive.  Lloyd was proud to have selected the rope for the re-rigging of the USS Constitution.

Lloyd was a past president of the Lion’s Club of Hull, a member of Cohasset Rotary Club, Konahasset Masonic Lodge, and Chanticleers.  He was Class Agent for Kings Point Academy and an elder at Beechwood Congregational Church. He loved spending time at his summer home on Louds Island, Maine, digging clams, teaching his children and grand children to run the boats, and enjoying cocktails with neighbors.  His secret clam chowder recipe won acclaim and prizes from the The Patriot Ledger and other organizations.

His wife of 65 years, Evelyn Benzoni Prescott and his granddaughter Andrea Keating predeceased Lloyd.  He is survived by his daughters, Lynne Kozlowski of Norwood, MA, Dana Prescott and her husband Don Carroll of Gubbio, Italy, Terry Marshall of Plymouth, MA, and Joan Busk and her husband Joe of Cohasset, MA.  He also leaves 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Visiting hours are at McNamara Sparrell Funeral Home, 160 So. Main St. (across from St. Anthony Church), Cohasset on Sunday, February 12 from 4-7 pm. A memorial service will be held Monday, February 13 at 11:00 am at North River Community Church, Pembroke, MA.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lloyd’s memory to Louds Island’s Samoset Cemetery Association, c/o Chaney, Treasurer, 190 Golden Ridge Road, Alna, ME 04535.
