Margaret “Peggy” A. (Morris) Callahan, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2017 with her loving daughters by her side. She was 73 years old. Beloved wife for 42 years of the late Dick Callahan. Loving mother of Julie Callahan of Norwell and Maryluz (Callahan) and her husband John Greenwood of Taunton. Proud grandmother, affectionately known as “Gramma” to Tyler Greenwood. She was a devoted sister to Kathleen Morris of Dorchester, John and Mary Morris of Orleans, Francis Morris of Braintree, and Edward and Donna Morris of Avon. Peggy was predeceased by Robert J. Morris and Elizabeth A. Morris. Peggy was a cherished aunt to her many nieces and nephews and has always loved spending time with family and friends.

The oldest of seven children, Peggy grew up in Dorchester in St. Gregory’s Parish. She attended Catherine Laboure School of Nursing and graduated in 1963. Peggy worked at The Carney Hospital from 1963-1972 on the surgical floor and she later opened the Intensive Care Unit for the hospital.

After getting married to the love of her life Richard “Dick” Callahan, they moved to Norwell and began planning a family. In 1980, Peggy and Dick were elated with the news that they were chosen to adopt a daughter, Maryluz from Colombia. While in Colombia they attended Maryluz’s First Holy Communion. In 1983, the family was blessed with the birth of their daughter Julie and their happy family was complete.

Peggy worked for The Norwell Visiting Nurses Association (NVNA) for 25 years. Along with being a wonderful and gifted nurse she started the Outreach program between St. Helen’s Parish and the NVNA, to provide gifts and needed care items for patients in surrounding communities.

Peggy will be remembered for her big heart, bright smile and the time she spent and invested in her dear friendships. She was an amazing example of strength, resilience and hope to all who knew her. A kind, caring, and wonderful wife, mother, friend and nurse, who will be missed by all .
