Welcome to the memorial page for

Martha (Hogan) Ogrodnik

October 23, 2016

Martha Ogrodnik, age 64, of Cohasset, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on October 23, 2016, after a valiant battle with cancer. She was the deeply beloved wife of Thomas Glenn Ogrodnik; mother of Matthew and Molly; and sister of Sheila Donofrio, Frederick J. Hogan III, William E. Hogan, Mary Hogan, Matthew Hogan, and Ann Brophy and their partners. Martha was a devoted wife and mother, and loved spending time with her family and friends.

Martha was a graduate of Leslie College, and received her Master’s Degree from Eastern Nazarene College. She worked for many years as a Special Education teacher in Dedham, MA, from which she retired in 2013. She was an avid walker, and loved being near the ocean, whether relaxing on the beach or aboard a sailboat. One of Martha’s greatest pleasures was vacationing in Punta Gorda, Florida, and soaking up all of the sun Florida had to offer. Her preferred method of travel was road trips, and she has driven all over the country with both family and friends.

Her passions included hunting for the perfect sale and coming home with a great piece of art, unique antiques, or fashionable (yet comfortable) clothing. She was widely known for her love of exercising, and was always trying new exercise classes and inspiring those around her to be healthy and fit. Martha could also be seen frequently spending time with her movie group, and was well known for her love of fantasy and science fiction movies and television shows.

Martha cherished hosting and attending multiple family parties each year during the holidays, with a Guinness by her side. She was an amazing listener (and lip reader), and loved chatting and laughing for hours on end. She was well-known for her expressions, many of which she picked up from her beloved mother Virginia; no matter the situation, Martha was quick to deliver the appropriate words of wisdom. She will be incredibly missed by her extremely close-knit extended family and many friends.

A funeral mass will be celebrated Friday, November 4, 2016 at 10 a.m. in St. Anthony Church, Cohasset.
