Mary R. Isley, 87, of Hingham and formerly of Williamsville, NY died peacefully on June 30 with family members by her side. She was the daughter of Scottish immigrants Ellen McKee and James Templeton. She was born in Brooklyn New York and met her husband, Edward Isley, in the neighborhood where they both grew up. Mary was a homemaker until her children entered high school. She worked for Frontier Science Foundation, a statistical and data management organization in Amherst, NY that collaborates with research networks and pharmaceutical companies in the design and execution of clinical trials and long-term observation studies. Mary held a Data Manager position in which she became a well-respected team member and worked with doctors and researchers in the US and Europe. She held the position until retirement. She traveled annually for research meetings to Switzerland or other places in Europe often taking her husband with her. Ed and Mary also took a trip around the world including stops in Paris, Rome, Greece, Thailand and Australia.
A devoted Catholic, Mary became an active member of St. Paul Parish in Hingham when she moved to Hingham in 2002. She also joined outings and groups at the Hingham Senior Center including her most favorite, a Scrabble group. More recently she resided at Allerton House where she kept active and was beloved by residents and staff. Mary has always been known as a strong, kind and generous person who treated all with respect. She demonstrated complete devotion to her family and her absence will be felt keenly by them.
Mary is survived by her two children and their spouses, Ellen Isley and Lee Munson of Scituate, and Douglas and Janet Isley of Naperville, IL. She is predeceased by her sister Jean Stavrakas, husband Edward, and their two children Janet Isley and James Isley, in addition to James’ wife, Nancy Isley. She is also survived by grandchildren Christopher and Colin Munson, Nicole Welsh and Kristin Rolph, brothers-in-law David Isley and Robert Stavrakas and nieces and nephews Catherine Stavrakas, Mary Pennington, John Stavrakas and Theadora Drescher.
Friends may gather during visiting hours at McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home at 160 South Main St., Cohasset from 4-7 p.m. Thu. July 6. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Paul Parish, 147 North St, Hingham at 10:00 a.m. on Fri. July 7. Burial will be private. Donations can be made in lieu of flowers to Feeding America or St. Paul’s Parish in Hingham.
