Robert E. Simmons

Robert E. Simmons, age 84, of Norwell, passed away on October 29, 2015 surrounded by his family at home. Beloved husband of Jeanette (Fahey) Simmons and devoted father of Robert E. Simmons, Jr. of Marblehead, Holly A. Simmons-Foley of Fairfield, CT, David A. Simmons of  Bridgewater and Suzanne E. Simmons of Norwell. Adored grandfather of Andrew and Matthew Simmons, Lindsay and Michael Simmons, and Katherine Foley. Brother of Shirley Deehan and Carol Packard of Plymouth and the late Gilbert Simmons of Davie, FL.

Mr. Simmons was educated at Brockton High School and took courses at Boston University. He operated the Fore River Esso Station in East Braintree for many years.  He was also a franchise dealer for Snap-On Tools, servicing the South Shore and Southeastern Massachusetts for thirty-five years. Mr. Simmons proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. He received training at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds, MD and was a member of Company A, 1st Ordnance Training Battalion stationed in Korea. In his spare time, Mr. Simmons enjoyed his home in West Dennis, walking his many dogs, working in the yard, making home repairs, attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, playing golf and keeping up with the Patriots. 

A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, November 5, 2015 at 10 am in the United Church of Christ, 460 Main St., Norwell, MA. Visiting hours Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2015 from 4-7 pm in the McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 30 Central St. (off Rt. 123, near State Police Barracks), Norwell Center. Interment Washington Street Cemetery,  Norwell. In lieu of flowers, donations to honor Robert may be made to the Alzheimer’s Assoc., 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472 and Easter Seals, PO Box 51410, Boston, MA 02205-1410.
