Samuel John Spinzola

Samuel John Spinzola, age 93, of Cohasset, passed away on January 16, 2018 at home with family. Husband of the late Eunice (Clapp) Spinzola and the beloved father of Nicholas Spinzola of Scituate, Peter Spinzola of Scituate, Charles Spinzola of Cohasset, Ann Beers and husband Steve of Reno, NV, Sandra Spinzola (Johnson) of Fitchburg, Lu Anne Sousa and husband Lawrence of Scituate, and the late Samuel J. “John” Spinzola, Jr. Grandfather of 13, and great-grandfather of 9. Brother of Lucy DeCoste of Scituate, and JoAnne Cook of Pembroke.

Sam was a US Navy Veteran who enlisted at the age of 20, and served during WWII.  He then worked as a Master Auto Mechanic for various companies in the Boston and South Shore area.

Cooking was something Sam always enjoyed, and you could rarely escape his kitchen without tasting a bit of whatever was on the stove.  "J'eat?"(did you eat?) was usually one of his first questions when you visited him.  You knew he was happy if you let him feed you.

But his favorite activity was tinkering around in his backyard building car engines, restoring classic Ford vehicles, and relaxing after a day's work.  He enjoyed the company there of many friends, family members and neighbors, who admired and respected his amazing ability and talent to fix cars the old-fashioned way.  He was usually seen with his neighbor Billy's cat by his side, whom he affectionately referred to as "the Fat Cat".

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Sam during visiting hours on Friday, Jan. 19, 2018 from 11:30 am-1:30 pm in McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 160 So. Main St. (across from St. Anthony Church), Cohasset followed by a graveside service at 2 pm in Woodside Cemetery, Cohasset. In lieu of flowers, donations to honor Sam may be made to the Norwell VNA and Hospice, 120 Longwater Drive, Norwell, MA. 02061.
