Sheila S. Evans, 83; Active Smith Graduate, Fund-Raiser and Volunteer
Sheila S. Evans, an active leader, fund-raiser and volunteer for a wide range
of educational, civic and philanthropic institutions, died December 15 at her home in
Cohasset, Massachusetts. She was 83.
Mrs. Evans had been a trustee of Smith College and Dana Hall School, an
Overseer of WGBH, and had served as an elected Trustee of Cohasset’s Paul Pratt
Memorial Library for 42 years. She also had held many other appointed and volunteer
positions in Cohasset. She played tennis regularly into her late 70’s, including after
having dual knee replacement surgery, and was an avid sailor and golfer until her death.
She is survived by her husband, of 58 years, Donald J. Evans, a brother, George
C. Sweeney Jr. of Spencer, Massachusetts, a son, Daniel S. Evans of Cohasset, two
daughters, Elizabeth E. Bodner of Cohasset and Martha E. Morris of Ridgefield,
Connecticut, and nine grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, December 18, 3 – 7 pm at McNamara-
Sparrell Funeral Home, 1 Summer Street, Cohasset. A memorial mass will be said at 11
am on Wednesday, December 19 at Saint Anthony Church, 10 Summer Street, Cohasset,
and a reception following the mass will be held at Saint Anthony Parish Center. In lieu
of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to The Cohasset Library Trust,
Inc., or Boys and Girls Clubs of Boston – Yawkey Club of Boston.
