I am sad to learn of Sheila's death. I am her cousin, the daughter of her sister Edna, living in Pittsburgh.  She mentored my daughter Susan when Susan was in Smith. I met her on a Smith tour which came through Pittsburgh and corresponded with her later.  I was impressed by her active mind and her charming presence.  I was planning to meet with her when I was going to be in Boston in February, 2013.

Dear Don:  I just heard the sad news about Sheila. In our day (a LONG time ago) i always thought that the wives of important partners at big Boston law firms were supposed to be somewhat shy and reserved. That is why i was always surprised and delighted whenever i had the chance to talk with outgoing, outspoken and humorous Sheila! I'm sure she will be missed a lot by her family and many friends.   Steve.

Dear Don, Danny, Betsy, Martha and all the Evans family:

Sheila will forever  be remembered in my heart as an amazing and inspiring woman--tirelessly contributing to communities, schools, libraries, universities and families. She truly lived in a way that for "to whom much is given, much is required". The word that comes to mind is "Dynamo". She leaves behind an amazing legacy of service and an amazing family and circle of friends. We send our love to you all.

Dear Evans Family,
We send our love and prayers from this "White House" in Washington, DC, remembering the irrepressible and wonderful Sheila Evans.  She always showed fortitude for family, resilience in overcoming, and generosity in the face of need.  We understood how Sheila set a high standard for behavior--academically, professionally, interpersonally--and we all wanted to clear that bar (at least I did!).  Landmine survivors and war victims worldwide benefitted from her faithful philanthropy.  Sheila, with Don of course, was an enthusiastic cheerleader of our work for many years, making me feel supported from the 'home team' in Cohasset.  Sheila's encouragement will be remembered always.
With love, in Celebration of a Great Life,
Jerry White
