Spencer A. “Skip” Joseph, age 74, of Norwell died Thursday, March 9, 2017 at home. Spencer was preceded in death by his wife Fay L. Joseph, who died on March 8, 2017. Married for 41 years, they passed away within hours of each other. Born Jan. 25, 1943, to Ellen L. and Spencer P. Joseph, Skip is survived by his three children, Spencer R. Skip was the loving grandfather of Chelsea Vetter, Alex Joseph, Allison Joseph, MacKenzie Joseph and Katelyn Lohr.

Skip was one of those unique people who was born on and died on the same street in Norwell. A native son committed to his town and the people who lived there. He attended school in Norwell, graduating from South Shore Vo-Tech, where he was a tireless supporter and served on their Advisory Committee.

Voted “Citizen of the Year” in 2010, Skip had a track record of volunteerism and public service to the town and its citizens. He was an active member of the community, spending 16 yrs as a Call Fireman, 12 yrs as a member of the Town’s Advisory Board, 7 yrs as a building Inspector, 6 yrs on the Disability Commission, 3-5 yrs on the Zoning Board of Appeals, 4 years on the Permanent Building and Maintenance Committee, 2 yrs on the By-Laws Committee, 6 yrs as the Alternate Building Inspector, and 5 yrs on the School Building Committee. Having built over 200 homes in and around Norwell, he was uniquely qualified to assist in the largest building project ever undertaken by the town, the $54,000,000 School Building Project. “He loved his home town and would make decisions he believed would best benefit the citizens of Norwell” said Ralph Gordon.

Family and Friends will gather to celebrate Skip and Fay during visiting hours on Thursday, March 16, 2017 from 3-7 pm in McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 30 Central Street (off Rt. 123, near State Police Barracks), Norwell Center.
