Maura Glancy Obituary

Maura Jane Glancy (Moran), 67 of Scituate, formerly of Dennis,MA, unexpectedly passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2024. Maura was born in Milton on October 8, 1956 to Anna and Frank Moran. Maura spent most of her childhood in the Cape with her brother Michael and sister Charlene. She graduated from Dennis-Yarmouth High School in 1974. After high school Maura attended East Carolina University, graduating with a degree in Geographical and Regional Planning.

She met the love of her life, Michael down on Cape Cod after college. They married in 1984 and moved to Scituate the same year. Their home in Sandhills filled with memories after the births of their 3 children, Samantha, Carly and Michael.

Maura’s zest for life was contagious. She helped spearhead women's athletics in the Town of Scituate. Her efforts and devotion to athletics will remain her legacy for years to come.

From working at the Scituate recreation, later becoming director , Maura helped form the

love of sport  to the youth throughout Scituate for many years. She played a major role in advocating for equal playing fields, safe environments and  programs for the community. She was a mentor to all who worked for the department and kept in touch with many. Maura retired as Director of Scituate Recreation in 2023.

Maura was her husband’s caregiver as he battled an illness for many years. Her strength and devotion to her husband and family was unmatched. She was the matriarch of the family and rock that kept everyone together.

After her husband’s death in 2021, Maura got back into her active routines. She was an avid pickleball player (pickler), camper, golfer, and YMCA member. She pushed herself to be her best self.

She attended Bible study at South Baptist Church in Hingham. Her circle of friends somehow grew even more in these past few years.

She is predeceased by her husband Michael, sister Charlene and parents.

She is survived by her three children, Samantha, Carly and Michael; who are going to miss her quick wit, unwavering support and life lessons.

She is also survived by her two grandsons, who adored the ground she walked on. Her brother Michael Moran of Milton Ma, and his wife Gayle and nephew Matthew Moran, of Boston. She is also survived by her best friend, and forever confidant Paula Elsmore and her family of Scituate.

Along with her immediate family, she is survived by the Glancy, Venti, and Dipesa families.

As well as her amazing neighbors who were her forever friends, and enjoyed many labor day parades, porch nights and beach days together.

Maura’s death has left a big hole in everyone's heart.. Her presence will be missed for years to come. But knowing she is back together with her love, Mike, helps ease the shock and sadness knowing they’re finally back together, where they are most happy.
