Carol MacNeill Obituary

Carol A. (Lawson Hart) MacNeill, 83 of Scituate died October 13, 2018 surrounded by her loving family.   Beloved wife of 41 years to William A. MacNeill (d.2014). Also pre-deceased by her first husband Cornelius “Bart” Hart and her son Peter MacNeill.

Loving mother of Maura and her husband, James Hilliard, of Florida, Bridget of Florida, Adrienne (Mindy) and her husband Steve Boudreau of Andover, Andrew and his wife, Elizabeth Tiley, of Northampton, Lisa Prince of Bourne, Joan and Dan Fratkin of New Hampshire, Linda and her husband, Anthony Giovannucci of Norwell, John and his wife, Molly of Scituate, Larry of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and her treasured Bichon Lexus. Cherished “Mimi” to her grand-children Caroline, Madeline, Fiona, Bridget, Conor, Kyle, Emma, Cade, Lillie, and Carleigh.

Carol graduated from Boston College School of Nursing in 1956 and began her professional career, concurrently raising her children. After the passing of her first husband Bart, Carol found a new calling in early childhood education after achieving her master’s degree from Curry College. She helped establish the Head Start program in Scituate and eventually transitioned to the Massachusetts Department of Education where she helped create and manage early childhood programs across Eastern Massachusetts.

A chance encounter at the Welch Company in Scituate led to marriage with then-widowed Boston College alumnus, Bill MacNeill.  Their blended family of 10 children, one cat and two dogs embarked on a 40 plus year adventure in life, love, and friendship.

A native of Winthrop, Carol resided in Scituate for over 50 years. She was a Life Honorary Member of the Scituate Harbor Yacht Club, former board member Norwell VNA, and a proud member of the Scituate Garden Club and KnitWits.

Carol was a stunningly beautiful woman- always impeccably and stylishly dressed.  Along with her friends and family, Carol will be sorely missed by the local Talbots woman's shop.
