Doris Leigh (Holmberg) Riley, age 90, passed away peacefully in her home on July 13 2017 at Sunrise of Cohasset, a loving assisted living community. Doris was born and raised in New Rochelle, NY.  She received a BA degree in English from the University of Vermont and during that time tested her adventurous side by obtaining her pilots license.  She met the love of her life, Dr. James T. “Bud” Riley in Burlington VT. After working a brief time in New York, for a magazine and a telephone company, they were married and on their way to raising four children, primarily in Natick and Dover MA.  While there, Doris volunteered in multiple capacities at the Leonard Morse Hospital in Natick and she and Bud were active members and organizer of tournaments at Woodland Golf Club.  She and Bud retired to their vacation home in Cotuit, MA and lived there for several years while continuing their involvement and love of golf at Oyster Harbors in Osterville MA.  After Bud’s passing Doris eventually moved to Hingham, MA and then finally to Cohasset, MA.  She and Bud travelled the world and enjoyed making new friends and playing golf wherever they went.  Doris was a friend to many, had an infectious smile, and loved a good laugh with her dear friends and family.  She enjoyed several hobbies besides golf, including skiing, sailing, tennis, swimming, bridge, gardening and painting.  She was an avid reader and had a stack of books by her side at all times.   Doris is predeceased by her husband James “Bud” Riley and three of her four children, Joyce Leigh (Riley) Davis, Ellen (Riley) Bayles, and Christopher James Riley. She is survived by her daughter Barbara Riley and partner Donna Greenwood of Newburyport, MA; her sons-in law Stephen Davis of Scituate, MA and Michael Bayles of Statesboro, GA; her grandchildren Christopher Davis and his wife Nadia Davis of Hanson, Stephanie Davis and fiancé Travis Cole of Venice Beach CA, Matthew Davis and his wife Lila Davis of Scituate; Sean Bayles and his wife Kara Bayles of Scituate; and Trevor Bayles of Boston, MA.  She is also survived by great grandchildren Ciara, McCormack and Sean Davis of Scituate, MA; Maisie Davis of Hanson MA; and Aidan Bayles of Scituate MA.  A celebration of her life will be held at the Barker Tavern, 21 Barker Rd. Scituate, MA on July 19, 2017 at 3:00.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pan Mass Challenge under rider Barbara Riley (BR0030) at www.PMC.Org to benefit the Jimmy Fund.
