Ethel M. (Hiltz) MacVicar, age 95, of Hingham, passed away peacefully with family at her side after a brief illness on March 14, 2018. Wife of the late Leonard R. MacVicar. Loving mother of Ross MacVicar and wife Jude of Plymouth, and Marsha J. MacVicar of Marshfield. Beloved grandmother of Laura MacVicar, Lynne Coy, Mason MacVicar, and Brian Mahan. Great-grandmother of Kevin MacVicar, Amanda Coy, and Sara Mahan. Sister of Harry Hiltz of Hingham, Carol Rowe of Weymouth, Paul Hiltz of Hull, and the late Lester Hiltz. Also survived by many nieces and nephews as well as friends from her childhood, those she met along life’s path, and the family and neighbors that helped her thru her last years.
A lifelong resident of Hingham, Ethel was a graduate of Hingham High School, Class of 1940, and remained connected to her class by organizing the class reunions. She worked at the Hingham Shipyard during WW II and as a bookkeeper at Hingham Lumber, among other jobs. Ethel was an avid ballroom and square dancer, who taught dancing with her husband. Mrs. MacVicar was also active with the Etrusco Foundation and supplied many photos of the grounded ship.
Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, March 18, 2018 from 2-5 pm in McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 160 So. Main St. (across from St. Anthony Church), Cohasset followed by a Funeral Service Monday, March 19, 2018 at 10 am in McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home. Interment Woodside Cemetery, Cohasset.
