John "Jake" Thomas Jacobus

June 5, 1942 ~ April 30, 2019 (age 76)

John T. “Jake” Jacobus, age 76, of Yarmouth, MA passed away peacefully in Jacksonville, FL on April 30, 2019.  John and his loving companion of several years, Marilyn Bucheri, had just begun their journey back to Yarmouth after spending the winter months in Sarasota, FL.

He was born on June 5, 1942 in Boston, MA, the son of John T. and Anna (Barrett) Jacobus. He was the 4th of the family’s 9 children.  John’s youth and upbringing were split between South Boston and Dorchester, MA.  He considered both cities his “hometown.”  He was always fond and proud of the family fabric that was fostered in both of those communities.  While living in Dorchester, his family belonged to the parish of St. Ambrose where John was an altar server.  John attended Boston Technical High School for three years before moving to Hingham, MA, where he graduated from Hingham High School in 1959.  John played football for both of those schools while studying and preparing for a career in the electrical industry.  After high school, John served his electrical apprenticeship in his father’s electrical contracting business, while taking business and construction related classes at Wentworth Institute of Technology.  John worked for several of the IBEW contracting firms including Mass Electric Construction, Lord Electric, and Norfolk Electric, before earning the necessary credentials for self employment.  John had a passion for the electrical industry and enjoyed many successes in his 52 years in the Electrical Contracting business.  John was also a member of the U.S. Army Reserve from 1960-1962 and was honorably discharged.

John married Priscilla Lane on November 27, 1965.  They enjoyed a strong and happy marriage until Priscilla’s passing in 1991.  They lived in Scituate, MA for 20 years and had 5 children together (Jo-Ann, John, Thomas, Richard and William).

Some of John’s other life passions and hobbies included his faith, family time, sailing, spending days on the beaches of Scituate, Cape Cod and Florida, and watching the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics and especially the Bruins. He also loved attending the athletic, artistic and religious events of his children and grandchildren.

John is survived by his companion Marilyn Bucheri, his children Jo-Ann and her husband Mark Loud of Scituate, MA, John and his wife Suzanne of Scituate MA, Thomas and his wife Patricia of Claremont CA, Richard and his wife Theresa of Taunton, MA, William and his wife Lucy of Hingham, MA, his grandchildren, John and Matthew Loud, Rena, William, Frankie, Julie, Jack and Megan Jacobus, his siblings, Anne Marie Rice, Carol Donovan, William Jacobus, and Robert Jacobus, as well as many nieces and nephews.
