Joseph M. Curley, 50, Cohasset, Mass. died suddenly in Boston, Mass. on Sunday, October 1, 2017.

Joe is survived by his wife, Lauren, and daughters, Madeline and Margaret, of Cohasset, Mass., his mother, Christine Edda, of Clinton, Conn., father Peter Curley and his wife, Elaine Gordon, sister Jennifer Curley and her husband Peter Scotella, and their sons Matthew, Andrew and James, all of Westbrook, Conn.

Joe was born on February 1, 1967 in New Haven, Conn. He graduated from Boston University in 1989 with a Bachelor of Arts, international relations, and was a Scarlet Key recipient. Joe was a cadet in the Naval ROTC at Boston University and was honorably discharged from the United States Navy as a Seaman in 1986. Joe held strong to his alma mater. He was a proud brother of Lambda Chi Alpha, and a dedicated BU Terrier and fan of the BU Women’s Lacrosse team, for which his daughter, Madeline, is a member.

He attended Hopkins School, New Haven, Conn. graduating in 1985. Joe was active in scouting in his youth, having earned the rank of Eagle Scout.

Upon graduation from BU, he began his long career in commercial insurance working for numerous insurance companies as an underwriter and most recently as a broker with Thomas E. Sears, Boston, Mass.

When he was not working he was often found on or near the ocean sailing and racing in the local 210 fleet, serving as race committee and race pro for the Cohasset Yacht Club, where he also served for two years as Vice Commodore.

A funeral mass is scheduled for Saturday, October 7, 2017 at 10:00am, St Anthony Catholic Church, 10 Summer St, Cohasset, Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joe’s honor and names of his nephews Matthew, Andrew and James, to High Hopes Therapeutic Riding Inc., 36 Town Woods Rd, Old Lyme, CT 06371.
