Judith H. (Mahan) Sladen

Judith H. Sladen (Mahan), age 70, of Scituate, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on January 16, 2017.  Beloved wife of the late Barry E. Sladen, Sr.  Judy was born on December 29, 1946 in Brockton, MA and lived in Scituate since 1953.  She was the daughter of the late Richard H. Mahan and Shirley B. Mahan.  Judy’s family meant everything to her. She was the matriarch of the family who loved to cook and care for all her loved ones.  She was the “other mother” to all her childrens’ friends.  She gave everyone a home and a warm meal.  Her passion in life was her family and her pets, cooking, gardening and loved working in her yard.  She cared for so many.  She was her childrens’ best friend and perfect role model for love and marriage (through thick and thin, for richer and poorer) and motherhood.  She leaves some big shoes to fill for the rest of us.  She was the loving mother of Lisa A. McMahon and her husband Jim of Bridgewater, Barry E. Sladen, Jr., and his wife Holly of Pembroke and Chrissy S. McCormack and her husband Dan of Cohasset; cherished Grammie to James M. McMahon, III of Scituate, Samantha A. McMahon of Fall River, Tyler M. Sladen of Missouri, Kelsey W. Sladen of Maryland, Lilly M. Sladen of Pembroke, Aidan Q. McCormack of Cohasset, Alexis J. Sladen and Avery M. Sladen of Pembroke and great grandson, Mason J. McMahon of Fall River.  She was the sister of Shirley Burns, Patricia Eldridge, Nancy Susens, Chardon Brooks Mahan and Richard W. Mahan.  Devoted friend to her lifelong friend Diane Anderson and her “other daughter” Gennie Litchfield Murphy.  A graveside service will be held in the Spring and date announced at a later time.  In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to the Scituate Veterans Services, 600 Chief Justice Cushing Highway, Scituate, MA. 02066 or the Scituate Animal Shelter, 780 Chief Justice Cushing Highway, Scituate, MA 02066.
