Welcome to the memorial page for

Kathleen Rita (Griffin) Ouellette

March 9, 1925 ~ April 12, 2017 (age 92) 92 Years Old

Kathleen R. Ouellette, of Hingham, and formerly Scituate, passed peacefully in her sleep on April 12 at 92 years of age.   A resident of Scituate for 50 years she loved living by the ocean, playing tennis and bridge, attending musical theatre whenever possible and socializing with many friends.  She was an active member of the community, a much-valued volunteer to many organizations and a loyal member of St. Mary of the Nativity Sodality.

She was born in Springfield Massachusetts, the daughter of Ethel and Francis Griffin. After high school graduation she was trained as an x-ray technician and worked at the Mercy Hospital in Springfield.  She had the good fortune to meet a young serviceman, Leo L. Ouellette, at a USO dance. They were married in 1947 and together raised five children. Although she lost her husband to illness in 1981, she was forever an optimist and an independent spirit, choosing to see the possibilities rather than the limitations in life.   Kathleen brought energy and good will to whatever situation she encountered. Even in the closing chapter of her life she had a remarkable capacity to make new friends through simple acts of kindness to those around her. She unfailingly offered encouragement, guidance and good counsel to her five children, occasionally beyond the time they considered it necessary. She will be dearly missed by each of them, her twelve grandchildren and her seven great-grandchildren.

Kathleen is survived by her brother Dr. John Griffin and his wife Janice of Longmeadow, MA. She was predeceased by her brother William Griffin of Winston Salem, NC.  She leaves her children Daniel Ouellette and his wife Jeanne of Center Lovell, ME; Maryann Ouellette and her husband Michael Lipchak of Milton, MA; James Ouellette and his wife Anne of Southport NC; Dr. Lois Osier and her husband Lawrence of Charlotte, NC; and Dr. David Ouellette and his wife Dr. Priscilla Long of Hannibal, MO.

Kathleen’s family wishes to express its deep gratitude to the wonderful caregivers at the Linden Ponds Community, Rose Court Skilled Nursing and Hospice of the South Shore.
