Martha Jean (Koempel) Dickinson

Cohasset, MA – Martha Jean Dickinson passed away on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at the Pat Roche Hospice House in Hingham, MA after living with breast cancer for 10 years.  She was the daughter of the late Marion and Martin Koempel of Naples, FL. Martha was born September 6, 1957 in Neptune, NJ and moved to Dennis, MA at the age of 12 where she lived at Scargo Manor, an original sea captain home. She graduated from Dennis/Yarmouth Regional High School, where she earned the spot of first featured twirler majorette, while working after school at the Cape Playhouse. Martha attended Boston University and after graduation worked for Cabot Advertising in Boston, MA. She then worked for Dickinson and Company in Quincy, MA where she met and worked with her former spouse, Mark Dickinson (deceased), until leaving to raise their daughter, Marissa. In 2006 Martha earned a Master’s Degree in Counseling at Antioch University in New Hampshire. Martha was passionate about helping women, initially working for the South Shore Women’s Resource Center in Plymouth, MA and later establishing a private practice in Hanover, MA. Martha was a long-standing member of the United Church of Christ in Norwell, where she engaged in various ministries including the music ministry where she shared her love of singing with her “choir family”. Martha was a Board Member of the North River Community Theater where she also performed in various plays and musicals. Martha is survived by her daughter Marissa Dickinson of Los Angeles, CA and her brother, Nicholas Koempel of Naples, FL. A memorial service will be held on January 5, 2019 at the United Church of Christ in Norwell, 460 Main Street, Norwell, MA 02061 at 11:00 AM followed by a luncheon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the South Shore Resource and Advocacy Center, PO Box 6237, N Plymouth, MA 02362.
