Mary Ellen Murphy

Mary Ellen Murphy, age 97, of Scituate, formerly of Dorchester, passed away on Sept. 17, 2017. Daughter of the late George and Ellen Sullivan. Raised and loved by her adoptive parents, the late Daniel and Katherine Murphy. Aunt of Sharon Ross and husband, Joseph “Ernie” of Scituate, Charles Sullivan and wife Barbara of Scituate, John Sullivan and wife Janet of Grafton, NH and Kevin Sullivan and wife Linda of WA. Sister of the late Charles Sullivan of Arlington, Joseph Sullivan of Scituate, and Sister Anne Murphy of Hyde Park. Great aunt of 13, great-great aunt of 12, and great-great-great aunt of one. Also survived by many godchildren.

Mary Ellen graduated from St. Joseph’s School in Somerville and Boston Business School. She worked in finances for Chase Parker and Baker’s Chocolate before becoming a School secretary for the Boston Public Schools for many years. The family would like to sincerely thank the Harbor House Nursing Staff for their love and care of Mary, as well as Beacon Hospice.

Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours from 9-10 am in McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 160 So. Main St. (across from St. Anthony Church), Cohasset on Friday, Sept. 22, 2017 followed immediately by a 10 am Mass of Christian Burial in St. Anthony Church, Cohasset. In lieu of flowers, donations to honor Mary may be made to the Scituate Animal Shelter, 780 Chief Justice Cushing Hwy, Scituate, MA. 02066.
