Michael “Mickey” James Zappolo, of Cohasset, 86, son of Michael P. Zappolo and Henrietta Wheelert Zappolo of Whitestone, Queens, NY. He is survived by his sister Eleanor Pantano, wife of the late Joseph Pantano of Whitestone, NY, and Billy Zappolo and wife Sue Bucherati of Bethpage, Long Island. Beloved husband of 63 years to Lynne Sturgeon Zappolo, and cherished father of Gregory M. and Michael D. Zappolo of Scituate and Cohasset and the daughters he never had, Nancy Laue Zappolo and Sandra Sladen Zappolo.
Mickey also leaves 4 wonderful grandchildren, Nicholas M. Zappolo and his wife Molly Robbins Zappolo,
Michael S. Zappolo, Carley E. Zappolo and her fiancé Chesley Ratliff, and Lindsay I. Zappolo.
Mickey was a US Navy veteran during the Korean War, aboard the USS Missouri. He was a man for all seasons and a natural born teacher. He coached his boys as youngsters, and even coached the undefeated Koed Crush softball team in the Scituate softball league. Mickey was an accomplished golfer, tennis player, and ski instructor. He shared his love of these, and all sports with his sons, as well as hundreds of ski school students at Haystack Mountain and Mt. Snow Vermont. Mickey was a lifelong gardener and passed this on as well. There was nothing he loved more than a Schofield Road grown tomato.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Anthony’s Church in Cohasset Tuesday October 22nd at 11am. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Norwell VNA & Hospice Charitable Fund, 120 Longwater Drive, Norwell, MA 02061 or South Shore Peer Recovery, 51 Cole Parkway, Scituate, MA 02066.
