Welcome to the memorial page for

Nancy C. (Cutting) Pottenger

November 5, 1929 ~ June 30, 2017 (age 87) 87 Years Old

Nancy Cutting Pottenger, 87, a longtime Cohasset resident, passed away peacefully at Massachusetts General Hospital on June 30, 2017.  The daughter of Dick and Sue Cutting, Nancy was born and raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan.  She graduated from her beloved University of Michigan in 1951.

In 1954 she married Dave Pottenger, thus beginning a marriage and partnership that would last nearly sixty-three years.  Following short stints in

Cincinnati and Philadelphia, Nancy and Dave moved to Cohasset in 1965, where they would raise their family.  In addition to her family responsibilities, she was a fixture at Cards and Shards in Cohasset Village for more than thirty years, a role that provided her much fulfillment.  In her later years, she was an active volunteer at Sea Coast Consignments, where she had many friends.  A woman of quiet but firm faith, Nancy was an active participant in the life of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, especially through her decades of service with the

Alter Guild at St. Stephen’s.

Nancy is survived by her husband Dave, of Cohasset, daughter and caregiver Susan, also of Cohasset, son Andrew and wife Elaine, of New York, NY, and son David and wife Sara, of Durham, NC.  Nancy also leaves behind her much-loved grandchildren, Nick and Luke Pottenger of New York, NY, Tatum Pottenger of Davidson, NC, and Megan Pottenger of Durham, NC.  She is also survived by her sister-in-law Peggy Cutting, nephew Bill Cutting, and niece Susie Cutting.  She is predeceased by her brother, Bob Cutting.

The family also wishes to acknowledge Nancy’s love of her Springer Spaniels over five decades, particularly her current canine companion Pepper.

A memorial service will be held at St Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Cohasset on August 24, 2017, at 11AM.  A reception will follow at the church’s Walton Rogers Hall.
