Robert Himberg Obituary

Robert W. Himberg, Sr., age 91, of Norwell, a veteran of US Navy, WW II and retired Verizon Telephone Employee, passed away on August 20, 2018. Beloved husband of Jean (Jose) Himberg for 64 years. Loving father of Robert W. Himberg, Jr and Janey Tilden, Carl A. Himberg and wife Julie, Jeanne Walker and husband Rob, Lynne Brandes and husband Bill, and Heidi Shields and Sean Swenson. Beloved grandfather of Farran Athanasiou and husband Matt, Robert W. Himberg, III, Catherine Himberg and fiancé Jared Clapp, Cory Himberg and wife Rachel, Joshua Himberg, Drew Himberg, Christine Walker and Brian Phillips, Robert Walker, Jr., Jacqueline Brandes, Hunter, Emmerson and Calleigh Shields. Great Grandfather of Alex Athanasiou.

During his life, Bob served his country in the Navy and received the World War II Victory Medal for his service. As with the pride he had for his country, he was proud to be an honorary member of the 106th Infantry Division Association - the division with which his brother, Carl, gave his life at the Battle of the Bulge during WWII. Prior to joining the United States Armed Forces, he was a graduate of the Boston Trade High School where he acquired his skills as a carpenter, mechanic, plumber, and electrician.

After his time of service, Bob found himself in cahoots with his childhood friend, Frank Buckley, working on race cars and traveling the racing circuit in Dayton and Indianapolis. During these days, Bob met the love of his life, Jean, with whom he would marry, build a home, and raise a family. Over the years and as their family grew, he developed a love for farming and became a 4H leader to educate his children on the values of being self-reliant. Bob was also an Assistant Scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts, an avid skier, and a true lover of his German heritage, which led him to become an active member of the Schul-Verein German Club. After his children were grown, Bob and Jean began adventuring around the world; seeing sights, meeting new friends, and fulfilling their dreams together.

Bob truly was a family man. He built a loving family as strong and as stubborn as he was. His family was his priority - always his pride and his joy. He may not have expected to raise such a large family, but never found a reason not to show his pride in them.

‘Bob/Dad/Grampa, thank you for being in our lives. We love you.’
