Robert Mohr Obituary

Robert B. Mohr passed away on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at his home in Scituate, MA. He was born on August 26, 1932 in New Orleans, LA to the late Robert and Bernice (Goldate) Mohr. He is predeceased by his brother David Mohr.

 

Robert is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Virginia (Clifford) of Scituate, MA and his children Robert and his wife Cheryl of Plymouth, MA, Cliff and his wife Betsy of Falmouth, ME, John and his wife Christine of Plymouth, MA and daughter Maryalice and her husband George of Brighton, MA. He leaves his grandchildren Ryan, Scott, Charlie, Carrie, Patrick, Heather, Hayden, Daniel, Aidan and his great-grandchildren Morgan, Kaylen, Kayden, Cullen, Linden and Arthur. He is also survived by his sister Gaile and her husband Henry Schorr of New Orleans, LA, his sister-in-law Betty Mohr of Baton Rouge, LA and his loving niece and nephews.

 

Robert grew up in New Orleans, LA. He graduated from Jesuit High School followed by Tulane University, Navy ROTC in 1954. He proudly completed 30 years in the Navy Reserve retiring as Captain where he was the Commanding Officer – Ship Supply Division – Boston. His retirement was aboard the USS Constitution.  Robert was also an executive at GTE Sylvania Government Systems for 36 years, retiring in 1995.  He worked at GTE as Manager of the Technical Publications Organization followed by Program Manager, Proposals and Strategies within the Secure Systems business unit.

 

Robert was a devoted member of St. Mary of the Nativity Church in Scituate, MA, a member of the Knights of Columbus, Religious Education Instructor, President of the GTE Quarter Century Club and a member of the New Millennium Investment Club.  He enjoyed spending hours in his many gardens and spent much time with his great-granddaughter Kaylen, sharing his green thumb.  Robert and his family enjoyed travel to Vienna, Austria to visit his daughter Maryalice while she studied music there. His most recent trip in October brought him back to New Orleans to visit his sister Gaile, her husband Henry and many relatives and friends. Robert also enjoyed his Navy Dinners with his friends at the Union Oyster House and his GTE friends’ monthly lunch meetings.  He looked forward to the Navy vs. Notre Dame football rivalry and Patriots and Saints football.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate Bob during visiting hours on Friday, April 5, 2019 from 8:30 am-10:30 am in McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 160 South Main St. (across from St. Anthony Church), Cohasset, MA. 02025 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am in St. Mary of the Nativity Church, 1 Kent St., Scituate Harbor, MA. 02066. Interment St. Mary Cemetery, Scituate.  In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations to be made in his honor to the Homes for the Troops, 1 Taunton Grn, Taunton, MA 02780.
