Robert J. Tis

Robert J. Tis, 86, of The Villages, FL and formerly of Cohasset, MA passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on March 11, 2018. Bob was the beloved husband of Peggy Tis.  He was a wonderful father to Robert Jr. of FL, and step-father to Lauren Tobin and her husband David, Susan Gummow and her husband Skip, Karen Falcone and her husband Andrew,and Katie Trecker and her husband Christopher.  Bob was the cherished grandfather to Riley, Kara, Danny, Aileen, Meg, Brian, Elizabeth, Anna, Lauren, and Caitlin and special uncle to Alex Tis and family. Bob was predeceased by his first wife, Jane Burke, and brother Eugene.

Bob was born and raised in NJ and was a graduate of the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, NY, class of 1956, and served in the Navy as an Engineering Officer aboard a destroyer in the Pacific.  He worked for Bethlehem Steel, Boston Edison Co., and the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station.  Bob served on numerous Board of Directors including Jordan Hospital, Old Colony United Way, Plymouth Philharmonic, Plymouth Rotary, and Cohasset Personnel Committee.

Bob’s favorite place to be was at the beach and loved playing golf.  He was a member of the Cohasset Golf Club. He enjoyed traveling and always welcomed a competitive game of cards or bridge.  Bob’s positive attitude and gentle and kind nature will be missed by many.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 11:00 am at St. Anthony’s Church in Cohasset with a reception immediately following at the Cohasset Lightkeeper’s Cottage.  A memorial service will be held in The Villages, FL at a later date.
