Welcome to the memorial page for

Susan M Watrous

December 15, 1932 ~ June 7, 2017 (age 84) 84 Years Old

Susan “Sue” McAdams Watrous, 84, a long time Cohasset resident, died peacefully in her sleep on June 7th, 2017, at the Harborview Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation. She was born and raised in Fall River, MA, the daughter of James C. McAdams and (Mary) Elizabeth H. McAdams.  She graduated from Walnut Hill School and attended Wellesley College before marrying and raising her family. Sue went on to obtain a B.A from Bridgewater State in 1975, as well as her certificate as a Professional Librarian, and worked at the Paul Pratt Memorial Library in Cohasset for 30 years. She thoroughly enjoyed meeting people and talking about books, and made many friends through working at the library. She was thrilled that many of her “kids” from her early career spent as the Children’s Librarian would stop and say hello, as the years passed. Sue loved books, travel, music, movies, plays, museums and lively gatherings of friends and family. She spent many hours on the water rowing her Alden shell. She also loved paddling her kayak in Little Harbor and in Westport, MA, where her family vacationed each summer. Sue enjoyed continuing her education auditing classes in Boston, and kept busy with activities such as Tai Chi, yoga and a brief fling with tap dancing. Sue will be remembered for her wonderful laugh, love of life, sense of adventure, and independent spirit. She was a wonderful listener and drew people to her with her warm personality.

She is survived by her two daughters, Linda Seekins of Waterville, ME, and her fiancé, Jim Shipsky, and Sarah McHugh of Rochester, NY, and her husband Perry; four grandchildren, Heidi Seekins and husband Andrew of Cambridge, MA, Kiera Antanaitis and husband Timothy of Portland, CT, Samuel Seekins of Portland, ME, and Patrick McHugh of New York City, NY; newborn great-granddaughter, Elena Antanaitis; sister, Linda Stratton of Flagstaff, AZ, sister-in-law, Carol McAdams; three nieces, Jennifer Stratton, Carlin Stratton, and Laura Stratton, nephew Anthony Stratton; two grandnieces, Bryce and Lila Sherlow; and by her devoted companion, William Stetson, with whom she spent many wonderful years. She was predeceased by her brother, James McAdams, and her ex-husband and father of her children, Richard Watrous, as well as her parents.
