Thomas Joseph Myers, Jr. of Cohasset passed away in his home on May 10th, 2018 at the age of 84.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 57 years, Dorothy E. Myers of Cohasset, his son Stephen and his wife Amanda, and his grandsons Zachary and Owen Myers of Jamaica Plain, MA. He is also survived and deeply missed by his two sisters, Priscilla Nagle of Winchester, MA and Suzanne Birdsall of Arnold, MD and their families. He is pre-deceased by his son, Timothy J. Myers, whom he and Dotty loved, supported and provided an amazing life to until his death in 1995. Tom leaves behind many, many extended family members who will remember him with fondness and for his quick wit and cheerful demeanor.
Tom was born in Medford, MA in 1933. Tom attended and graduated from Tabor Academy in 1952 where he played Soccer and ran Track. From there Tom attended Boston University where he played varsity soccer and became a "Sig Ep" (Sigma Phi Epsilon) fraternity brother, graduating with an Associates degree in 1954. Then it was off to Korea via Fort Dix and the US Army with the 60th Infantry Regiment. After Basic Training Tom was lucky enough to spend most of his enlisted time not in Korea but in Germany and other European countries serving and playing soccer for the US Army.
Two years later Tom came back to the States and Boston where he ultimately met Dotty. They officially started their life together in 1961, eventually settling in Cohasset to raise a family. As a father and family man Tom took care to teach his sons about the importance of family (his Irish one was enormous), respecting and being kind to others, soccer (he takes credit for rec soccer in Cohasset in the 70s), cribbage, the Red Sox, how to wear long sideburns and still look great, the proper way to watch a Celtics game on TV (with volume turned down and Johnny Most turned up on the radio), the value of a well-crafted poem at family gatherings, the intricacies of Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy (and why not to call his home from 7-8p Monday through Friday), how to pour a proper cocktail, and many other important life lessons. Steve will cherish him and miss him daily.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Tom on Monday, May 14, 2018 from 4-7 pm in McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 160 So. Main St. (across from St. Anthony Church), Cohasset, MA. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2018 at 10 am in Second Congregational Church, 43 Highland Ave., Cohasset Commons. Interment Woodside Cemetery, Cohasset.
