Obituary

Abraham "A.J." Joseph Antoine Jr. passed away at the age of 90 on Friday, December 16, 2022. He was a faith-filled man, always put family first, a lover of the ocean, and a gifted gentle soul. As many have remarked through the years, "A.J. is the nicest man I've ever met."

Born in Cohasset on September 15, 1932 to Abraham Joseph Antoine Sr. and Frances O'Connor Antoine. He lived in Cohasset with his three sisters Elizabeth, Claire, and is survived by his sister Rita Carroll and many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A.J. was the devoted husband for 56 years to the late Marjorie King Antoine. Loving father to five children: Nancy Antoine-DiRocco and her husband Edward DiRocco, Richard Antoine and his wife Brenda Antoine, Patricia Antoine Lyne, Jane Antoine Portinari, and the late John Antoine, and Godfather to Jackie Scott. Grandfather to five grandchildren: Carol Gant, Jennifer Allred, Melissa Antoine, Austin Lyne III, and Emma Antoine-Portinari. Great Grandfather to Jack Allred, Abraham Allred, Gage Gant, Samuel Black, and Sarah Kate Antoine.

A.J. attended Norfolk Agricultural High School, and served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was a Cohasset Police Officer, and worked as a car salesman for Cohasset Motors and Best Chevrolet until he retired after 47 years.

A.J. was a proud Cohasset townie. He served on many town committees including: Boy Scouts, Bicentennial, Harbor Study, President of The Lions Club, American Legion, and was an active member of St. Anthony's Church. He enjoyed spending time in his boat on Cohasset Harbor and at Bassing Beach. A.J. was a diehard Red Sox and Patriot's fan, and an avid golfer.

A.J. was loved by all who had the privilege to know him, and he was a true compassionate gentleman. He will be greatly missed but we will carry his legacy on through the love he shared.

His funeral Mass will take place on January 7, 2023 at 10:00 am at St. Anthony's Church, 2 Summer St, Cohasset, MA. A.J. will be buried with Military Honors.

A.J. was a direct descendant of the late Joseph Antoine, a lighthouse keeper of the first Minot's Light who perished when the light went down during a storm. Memorial donations in lieu of flowers can be made to The Cohasset Historical Society, P.O.BOX 627, Cohasset, MA 02025.
