Obituary

Alice (Souza) Jason, age 97 of Cohasset passed away Saturday, November 22, 2014. Alice was born in Plymouth and raised in Hanson. She was the beloved wife of the late Harry Jason Sr. for nearly 60 years, loving mother of the late Harry Jason Jr. Sister of the late Alvera Souza, the late Helen Cree, and the late Joseph Souza. Aunt of the late Marie (Souza) Lowry and Helen (Cree) Wells of Roslindale.

Alice lived most of her live in Cohasset where prior to her marriage she worked as a dental assistant for Dr Arthur Eldridge. In this occupation, she frequently donated her time to the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary assisting those less fortunate with their dental care. During her married years, she often worked as a housekeeper for several Cohasset families. Alice had a well known love for gardening and for many years her gardens were enjoyed by many on the town garden tours or by neighborhood strollers. On a Saturday night Alice could be found on the dance floor with her husband and large circle of wonderful friends, friendships she maintained throughout her life. She also enjoyed traveling and visited Portugal, the Canadian Rockies, Hawaii and many southern and New England States. She also was very creative and talented with her ceramics which she thoroughly enjoyed. Following the death of her son, she donated 54 acres of land in Plympton in his name which became known as the Harry Jason Jr. Memorial Park so that the town would have an open park where they would forever be able to enjoy open spaces. Alice will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure to know her, her laughter, and her infamous saying of taking one day at a time.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2014 at 11 am in St. Anthony Church, Cohasset. Visiting hour from 9-11 am prior to the Mass in McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 160 So. Main St. (on the corner of Summer St., across from St. Anthony Church), Cohasset.
