Antonio "Tony" Mercurio of Cohasset, MA passed away after a short illness on Thursday, November 29 at Mass General Hospital, surrounded daily by his family and friends. He was 74 years old and was the beloved son of Maria Mercurio and the late Antonio Mercurio, and the loving husband of Emma (Pregoni) Mercurio for 54 years, both of Cohasset. He is also survived by his daughter Lisa Mercurio of Pembroke, MA, her husband Joseph Salmeri, and his son Michael Mercurio of Windham, New Hampshire. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Joseph Antonio Salmeri, and Marco and Mara Mercurio; His brother Joseph and his wife Antoinette of Cohasset; His brother-in-law Pasquale Pregoni and his wife Marisa of Scituate, his sister-in-laws Maria Prospero and her husband Pasquale of New York and Gisella Varano and her husband Domenic of Connecticut, nieces and nephews Marc Mercurio of Scituate, Andrea Mercurio of Brookline, and Daniel and Christopher Mercurio of Boston, Diana Spadea of Weymouth, Pamela and Nadia Pregoni of Scituate, Joseph and Guido Prospero and Gina Pullano all of New York, and Gregory and Steven Varano of Connecticut.
Born in Palermiti, Italy he came to the United States at the age of 10. He attended the Hingham school system. He spent a number of years in various positions in the women's sportswear manufacturing industry. For the last 30 years he held the position of project manager for the Boston University Facilities Management.
Tony Mercurio was a kind, gentle and loving husband, father, brother, uncle and supportive role model to all of his family – he was the family patriarch giving strength to all. His warm smile, good will and good deeds echo wherever he traveled. He was the singular builder of bridges that permitted all those he loved to pursue their own dreams and aspirations – a good, decent, selfless and great man.
Relatives and Friends invited to attend a Funeral Mass in St. Anthony Church, Cohasset on Monday, Dec. 3, 2012 at 10 am. Interment to follow at Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree, MA. Visiting hours private for family.
