Captain Arthur Otis Wood, Jr., March 4, 2011 at age 91
Born in Cohasset. Graduate of the Massachusetts Nautical School in 1940 (now known as the Massachusetts Maritime Academy). At the age of twenty-five, he served as Captain of a Liberty Ship in the Merchant Marine during WW II.
Founder and owner of the Wood Surgical Instrument Company of Sea Cliff, New York.
Retired to Scituate in 1981.
Survived by his wife of 68 years, Dorothy Merrill Wood; daughter Susan Wood Nichols and son-in-law Daniel C. Nichols of Maryland, and daughter Leslie J. Wood of North Carolina; sisters Dorothy C. Wood of Cohasset and Grace W. Wynne of Washington State; brothers Joseph E. Wood (deceased), and Charles B. Wood of Scituate; nephews Arthur O. Wood III and Charles B. Wood, Jr. both of Scituate; nieces Dorothy Jean W. Skelton, and Grace Victoria W. Elkins both of Washington State; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several grand nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at the Newton Cemetery, 791 Walnut Street, Newton Center, Mass.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Norwell VNA and Hospice of 91 Longwater Circle, Norwell, MA 02061.
