Dr. Barbara Catharine Finnegan of Norwell and Centerville, passed away on December 29, 2022 at age 83 after a long illness. Loving daughter of the late Thomas J. Finnegan, Esq. and Catharine (Caraher) Finnegan, she is survived by her caring extended family, her devoted circle of friends, and her beloved dog, Rylee.
A graduate of the College of New Rochelle (BA 1960) and Boston University (M.Ed. 1965 and Ed.D. 1974), she retired in 2004 after 41 years as a teacher and administrator in the Hingham Public Schools. Those who knew and worked with Barbara will forever remember her as a dedicated, compassionate friend and a person of profound faith. She was a scholarly and accomplished individual who wrote with elegance and carried herself with dignity. Her legacy of excellence, strength, and razor sharp wit will live on.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, from 4-7 p.m. at the McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 30 Central Street, Norwell. The family kindly asks that guests please wear masks while in attendance. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, January 4, at 10:00 a.m. at Resurrection Parish, 1057 Main Street, Hingham. Relatives and friends invited to attend. Interment at Church Hill Cemetery, Norwell, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations in Barbara's memory may be made to MSPCA-Angell, 350 South Huntington Avenue, Boston, MA, 02130, or to Norwell VNA and Hospice Charitable Fund, 120 Longwater Drive, Norwell, MA, 02061.
