Blanche Josephine
(Carl) Merritt
April 9, 1927 – October 5, 2022
Blanche Josephine Merritt, 95, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2022, surrounded by family at Harbor House Nursing Facility in Hingham after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's Disease.
She was born to Leo and Ethel Carl on April 9, 1927. Blanche is survived by her husband Harry A. Merritt of Norwell. On August 2nd they celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary.
She was mother to the late Harry S. Merritt and is survived by her son Richard Merritt and his wife Mary of Norwell and Quincy, and her daughter Kathy May of Pembroke. Blanche is also survived by four grandchildren, Harry L. Merritt and his wife Danielle of Norwell, Persephone Merritt and her partner Bryan also of Norwell, Parker Merritt and his fiancé Katrina of Foxboro and Ashley May of Pembroke. She was proud great grandmother of, Abigail Lynn Merritt, Harry James Merritt and Morgan Grace Merritt, and dear sister of Robert Carl, William Carl and the late Leo Carl, Herbert Carl and Richard Carl.
Born in Brighton, Blanche grew up in Norwell on Mount Blue Street and graduated from Norwell High School, Class of 1945. Early in life she worked for New England Telephone on Main Street, Norwell and later for many years in the Norwell School System. She and her husband Harry resided on River Street in Norwell for over 70 years.
Blanche enjoyed cooking, gardening, walks in the Norris Reservation and most of all spending time with her family.
Blanche and her husband Harry vacationed in Tamworth, New Hampshire where they maintained a modest second home for over 50 years.
The family would like to thank and acknowledge the dedicated and caring employees at Harbor House in Hingham for their care of Blanche over the past four years.
Funeral arrangements are by McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home on Central Street in Norwell. Visiting hours are Tuesday, October 11th from 3:00PM to 7:00PM. Interment will be private.
