Brendan F. Lynch of Scituate, MA, beloved friend, husband and grandfather, passed away on December 4th, 2023 at the age of 80.  Brendan was born in Boston, MA on February 10th, 1943, the youngest son of Helena (Houlihan) and John Lynch of Kenmare and Kilgarven, County Kerry, Ireland.  He was preceded in death by his brother, John J. Lynch and his infant son, Timothy B. Lynch.

Brendan is survived by his wife and best friend of 52 years Rita (Moran) Lynch; children Kristina Lynch Dalicandro (Bill Dalicandro) of Scituate, MA, Katie Lynch Misra (Palash Misra) of Winchester, MA, and Karen Lynch Evans (Michael Evans) of Wyoming, OH; and seven grandchildren Brendan, Jack, Alexia, Tyler, Divya, Charlie, and Bodhi.

Raised in Dorchester (St. Peter's Parish), Brendan was a graduate of Christopher Columbus High School, Boston University (BA) with a double major in finance and accounting and Suffolk University (MBA).  He also proudly served 6 years in the Yankee Division of the Massachusetts National Guard.  Brendan enjoyed a long and successful 42-year career at the Bank of Boston, retiring as Vice President and Assistant Comptroller.  He earned two advanced professional certificates from the University of Wisconsin and the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University.  He was a mentor and leader, and taught college accounting for 14 years at The New England Banking Institute.  Following his retirement, he was elected as Treasurer/Collector for the Town of Scituate and attended 4 years of Treasurer and Collector School at UMass Amherst.

Brendan was known for his gregarious nature and incredible wit. He had an uncanny ability to remember details of the past and would happily share a good story with all he met.  He lit up every room he walked into and always came out with a new friend.  He coached his daughters' soccer teams, organized events for the Knights of Columbus swim team, and you'd always see him with a mic in his hand volunteering at a booth to support the annual Scituate K of C Carnival.  He was a social person, and for years loved playing in his summer softball league.  He was an avid tennis player, absolutely loved the sport, as well as the post game camaraderie in his weekly men's league.  He loved and cherished his children and grandkids and never missed an opportunity to cheer them on – usually with his commentary from the sidelines or with his legendary whistle!  Brendan exuded positivity and loved spending time with friends and family.  He was a voracious reader and read 3 newspapers cover-to-cover daily during his retirement years accompanied with a cup of tea.  He could be seen biking around town, relaxing and listening to Irish music at Egypt Beach, or enjoying a walk around Scituate Harbor or the lighthouse with Rita.

Services will be held on Friday, December 15th. A period of visitation will be held from 9:00-10:45 a.m. at McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home.  An 11:00 a.m. Funeral Mass will follow at St. Anthony's Parish, 2 Summer St. Cohasset.
