(Cohasset) - Calvin (“Cal”) Drake Waters, son of Calvin Goodman Waters and Mary Gardner Waters, died peacefully on Friday, August 21st, surrounded by family, after a battle with Lewy Body Dementia and Alzheimer’s. He was 81.

Cal was born in Chicago on November 15th, 1944, and grew up in Longmeadow, MA, together with his sisters, Nancy and Dina, whom he loved dearly. He attended the Kingswood-Oxford School in West Hartford before going on to Proctor Academy, where he graduated in 1963. Cal was an accomplished tennis player throughout his youth and competed professionally on the junior circuit, picking up various club titles along the way. He would carry that love of tennis on throughout his adult life, playing with friends and family whenever he had the opportunity. Cal joined the Army in 1968 and met his wife, Marcy, on a blind date in Boston later that year. Shortly after, Cal departed for duty in Germany, where he served during the Vietnam War until 1970. Upon returning from his service, they were married at St. Paul’s Church in her hometown of Fairfield, CT. Cal continued on to study at Babson College, where he received his BA. He enjoyed a variety of work ventures throughout his life, including building homes and tennis courts on Cape Cod, before settling into a finance role for several auto dealerships across the south shore, enabling him to lean into his lifetime love of cars.

Cal and Marcy started their life together on the south shore of Boston, eventually settling in Scituate, where they would live for the next 40 years, raising their three girls and enjoying time with their many friends and neighbors. They enjoyed gardening together and could often be found outside in the yard, tending to their vegetable and flower gardens, and spending time with their many pets. There wasn’t an animal Cal met that he didn’t adore (with the exception of snakes!), and his girls often recount the many rabbits, chipmunks, birds, and other assorted animals-in-need that Cal would bring inside and lovingly tend to until they were ready to return to the outdoors. Cal and Marcy were longtime members of St Luke’s Episcopal Church in Scituate and also enjoyed playing tennis and golf together, and spending time in East Dennis, MA, Groton Long Point, CT, and Redwood, NY with family.

Cal leaves behind his wife of 56 years, Marcy Storey Waters; his daughters Allison Waters Doherty, Sarah Gardner Waters, and Catherine Cameron Waters; sons-in-law Colin Doherty, William Lopes and Geoffrey Downs; granddaughters Kemble, Molly and Ellen Doherty; sisters Nancy Waters Russell and Diana Waters Lyman, brothers-in-law Edwin Lyman, Donald Storey, Christopher Storey, and all of their children and their families; his cats, George and Dickens, and the many friends, teammates and colleagues he was fortunate enough to spend time with throughout his life.
