Obituary

Carolyn Queenan (Dunn) of Cohasset, MA, passed away on February 2, after a courageous seven-year battle with neuroendocrine cancer. She was 59.

Beloved wife of 32 years of Paul Queenan and loving mother of Conor, Brendan, and Maggie Queenan, she was the devoted daughter of Phyllis Dunn of Weymouth and the late Joseph Dunn, and cherished sister of Susan McPartlin and her husband Jim of Marshfield, and brother Jack Dunn and his wife Hazel of Milton, as well as brothers-in-law James Queenan and his wife Jean, of Meredith, NH, Stephen Queenan of Conway, SC, and Brian and his wife Kathy, of Rockland. MA. She was predeceased by her in-laws, Jim and Doris Queenan of Braintree, and is survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

A gifted teacher who taught Kindergarten at the Joseph Osgood Elementary School in Cohasset for 17 years, Carolyn developed deep bonds with her students and their families. Her passion for her students was her joy, as was her love for her colleagues in the Osgood family. Carolyn beamed whenever former students would stop her in town to say hello.

Outside of the classroom, Carolyn was an outdoor enthusiast who loved kayaking, biking, hiking and walking along the Cohasset shoreline with her husband and their children. The family also cherished summer days together on Cape Cod, skiing in New Hampshire, and family trips to places ranging from Paris to Hawaii. They were happiest in their home on in Cohasset where they enjoyed spending time together as a family.

A 1981 graduate of North Quincy High School, Carolyn graduated from Suffolk University in 1986, where she first met Paul. She received her master's degree in education from Wheelock College. She enjoyed reading, going to concerts and her time at or near the ocean. Carolyn's biggest joy was seeing Conor, Brendan and Maggie grow to be who they are today.

Kind-hearted, caring, loving, and loyal, Carolyn was a gentle soul who will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. Her loving 32-year marriage was an inspiration for those who knew and loved her. Ever the teacher, her last gift to her family was to ensure us that she was at peace and that cancer had not lessened her faith or love of life.

Visiting hours will be held at the McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 1 Summer Street, Cohasset, on Wednesday February 8 from 3-7 p.m.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 2 Summer Street in Cohasset on Thursday February 9 at 11:00 a.m. Carolyn was so appreciative of the care provided by the MGH team. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mass General Cancer Center.
