Cindy A. (Cushen) Hunter, 71, of Scituate, Massachusetts, formerly of Norwell, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2026, at the Life Care Center of Scituate.
Born in Weymouth, Massachusetts, in 1954, Cindy was the daughter of the late Elizabeth “Lib” Clary and stepfather, William “Bill” Clary of East Harwich, and the late John Cushen and late stepmother Anne Cushen of Norwell.
Cindy was a truly loving and caring woman whose heart was always focused on others. Her greatest joy in life was being a mother, a role she embraced with devotion, strength, and unconditional love. She also had a wonderful sense of humor—Cindy loved to laugh and could always be counted on to bring a smile to those around her.
Cindy spent most of her life in Norwell and raised her family there. For many years, Cindy ran a house-cleaning business on the South Shore, where she became much more than a service provider—she built friendships and earned the trust of everyone she worked with. Cindy had an enormous heart for animals, especially cats, and was involved in many rescue efforts. If an animal needed help, Cindy was there.
She was the beloved wife of the late Bruce Hunter, with whom she shared a loving marriage beginning in 1977. She is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Morrissey, and Bonnie’s husband, Michael Morrissey, of Scituate, who provided her with constant love, support, and comfort, especially in her later years.
Cindy is also survived by her cherished sister Karen Newcomb of Canton, and Karen’s children, Daniel of New Hampshire, Elizabeth of Canton, and Jill of Arizona. She is also survived by her stepdaughters, Christine Jeas and her husband, Dean, of New Hampshire and their daughter Katherine; Annie Hunter of Braintree; and Candace and Larry Corthell of Plymouth.
Cindy was predeceased by her son, Brian Hunter, and her daughter, Alison Hunter—losses that brought her profound sorrow and were carried with great strength. She was also predeceased by her brother-in-law, John Newcomb, granddaughter Angela Tantillo, and her cherished canine companion, Sandor, who rarely left her side.
In recent years, Cindy found immense happiness in being “Beena” to her grandchildren—Layne, Andy, Greenie, and Birdie Morrissey of Scituate; William Joyce of Hanover; and Destiny Tantillo of Taunton. She attended their sporting events, school activities and milestones if her health allowed it, and took great pride in being a loving presence in their lives.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses, CNAs, and staff at the Life Care Center of Scituate for the kindness, compassion, and wonderful care they provided to Cindy. Cindy will be remembered for her kindness, her generosity, her infectious laugh, and loving spirit.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 27, 2026 from 4-7pm at the McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home-30 Central Street, Norwell, MA 02061.
The Funeral will be held on Wednesday, January 28, 2026 at 11am in the McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home-Norwell. Relatives and friends invited to attend. Burial will be at Church Hill Cemetery, Norwell, MA.
