Clarice Mary Hartwell

Scituate, Mass.

Claire Hartwell, age 97, passed away peacefully at home after a long life. Claire was a longtime resident of Scituate, MA and Boca Raton, FL.

Claire was born in Boston, MA to the late Michael Coscia, Sr. and Clarice (Scopa) Coscia. She was raised in Somerville, MA and is a graduate of St. Clement High School, Medford, MA.

Following graduation, Claire worked at Filene's Basement and The Bank of Boston, where she met her husband, Ken. She and Ken were married for 62 years. They began their life together in Somerville and later moved to Swampscott, then Scituate to be closer to the extended family. Claire enjoyed accompanying Ken on international business trips, baking for her family, knitting, attending exercise classes, spending time with friends at the beach and lunch outings with her neighbors.

During her retirement years in Boca Raton, FL, Claire enjoyed playing cards, bingo, long walks, afternoons at the pool and dinners out with her many new friends. Claire especially loved when her grandchildren visited, and she would accompany them to the pool, arcade, carousel or bowling and then for ice cream. Claire's favorite role was that of 'Nana' to her three grandchildren.

Claire is survived by her sons Paul and Timothy Hartwell, of Scituate, MA, and Kevin Hartwell (Meg) of Ashland, MA. She is also survived by her grandchildren Eric (Cara) and Tyler Hartwell of Scituate, MA and Jaimie Hartwell of Boston, MA.

Claire is predeceased by her husband, Kenneth Hartwell, her sister Olga (Coscia) Harrigan and her brother Michael Coscia, Jr. all of Scituate, MA.

The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Paul Hartwell for his selfless role as the full-time caregiver for his mother since Ken's passing in 2018. We would also like to thank the team at Norwell Visiting Nurses and Hospice for their compassionate in-home care.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 2 Summer Street, Cohasset, MA at 10:30am on Saturday, October 18, 2025.
