Dana Stearns Cushing

Dana S. Cushing, 76, of Cohasset, MA passed away on August 3rd in the comfort of his home.

Born in Weymouth, MA in 1950 to Robert S. Cushing and Priscilla (Chew) Cushing of Hingham. The family later relocated to Norwell, MA. Dana graduated from Boston University with a Certificate of Advanced Studies in School Psychology. Immediately after graduating, he took up house painting and invested 50 years restoring the souls of older homes. Dana was an artist in everything he did – detailed pencil portraits in his youth, decorating his home with Arts and Crafts period decor, and crafting a magical landscape for the enjoyment of the entire community. He relished sharing his elaborate Christmas light display and annual Easter egg hunt. Dana was an avid reader and explorer of higher states of consciousness. He was open-hearted and giving to everyone and his passing leaves an empty space in the hearts of many people.

Dana was the husband of Mary Ann (Gerhold) Cushing for 37 years. He leaves behind a daughter, Catherine Brianna of Maynard, MA and son, Jesse Cushing of Cohasset. He was survived by his siblings – Robert Rand Cushing of Weymouth, MA, Bradford Cushing of Montery, TN, Roberta Oman of Virginia Beach, VA, Meredith Small of Buxton, ME, Lynn Cushing of Bluffton, SC, and Janet Howard of Lexington, KY.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life at First Parish in Cohasset, 30 N. Main Street, Cohasset, on Saturday, September 26 at 11:00 AM. "No black attire, please. This is a celebration of a life well-lived."
