IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Daune (Harris)
Haskell
September 24, 1938 – January 18, 2024
Daune Haskell, 85, of Hanover passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 18, 2024. Daune, born in New Bedford, was the daughter of William and Florence Harris of Acushnet. She was predeceased by her 2 brothers, Wayne Harris and William Harris, survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Wayne Haskell and their 3 children, Lynne McCarty and her husband Thomas McCarty of Marshfield, Wendy Haskell and her life partner Noreen Miller of Connecticut, and Scott Haskell and his partner Julie Bilodeau of Kingston. Daune was also the adored grandmother of Andrew Haskell of Oregon, Matthew McCarty of California, and Paisley Haskell of Boston.
Daune and her husband Wayne settled in Norwell, where they raised their three children then subsequently moved to Hanover.
Daune led a very active and fulfilling life. A charter member of UCC Norwell, she worked as the Parish Administrator for over 30 years. During that time, she worked faithfully and passionately inside and outside the church, helping with the church's mission. She donated her time to many causes including The Kay Doherty Good Friday Walk to raise funds for antipoverty programs in the rural south, El Salvador missions, Camp Wampanoag, soup kitchens, delivering food to homeless shelters through The Food Circle, helping with the New Nursery, the children and adult choirs, and cooking meals for youth group retreats. She was a member of the UCC Norwell Women's Fellowship, donating many hours helping at church functions and serving as President for a time. She was also a co-founder of the UCC Norwell Prayer Shawl Ministry.
At the same time, she was a wonderful wife and mother. Family gatherings were very important to her and she would always keep the family close at heart by hosting many cherished and fun get-togethers. One of her favorite things to do was play board games and cards with her children and grandchildren. Daune would often take her kids and their friends to NH for a day of skiing; during the summer, there were pool parties with her kids and friends. She was involved with their Brownies, Girl and Boy Scouts troops as well.
In her retired years, Daune and Wayne hosted many family vacations in NH, Maine and Florida, making lots of precious memories. Daune and Wayne spent winters on Anna Maria Island, FL, which became their home away from home.
Daune's love for travel allowed her to enjoy trips with Wayne and other treasured friends to Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Amazon River, Greece, Italy, a Mississippi Civil Rights Tour, Thailand, Zion, Bryce-Glen-Grand Canyon, Panama Canal, Tanzania Africa, England, South Wales, Austria, Germany, and Amsterdam and different areas of the East Coast, as well as a three week trip touring the West coast.
Daune was an entertainer extraordinaire! She loved to cook and entertain friends, family and neighbors and enjoyed getting people together for LOTS of delicious food. She took pleasure in many activities with Wayne and her friends including Bridge Group, Bowling Team, Birthday Girls and her group of Scituate Harbor Women Walkers. Daune was an extremely remarkable, fun, kind, caring, generous, loving woman with a great sense of humor and tons of class and style! Her family continues to be inspired by the richness of her life. She will be greatly missed by the many lives she touched.
The family will be holding a memorial service at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to UCC Norwell, Norwell VNA and Hospice, The Alzheimer's Association or Habitat For Humanity.
