Deanna O.  (Higgs) Garland, of Marshfield, formerly of Braintree, age 63, passed away, surrounded by family on December 13, 2015 after battling cancer for the last ten years. Beloved wife of Richard "Rick" Garland and devoted mother of Sean C. Garland of Scituate, Sara A. Garland and husband Nick Black of Milton, and Ryan W. Garland of Scituate.  Daughter of Clara E. Higgs of Scituate and the late Lawrence  L. Higgs. Sister of David Higgs of Weymouth, Darlene Verzone of Plymouth, Delia Weikert of Scituate. Loving Nana of Henry and Emma Black.

Mrs. Garland was a graduate of Braintree High School, Class of 1970, Katherine Gibbs School, and Bentley College. She had a long career as a paralegal, most recently as a Senior Legal Specialist for John Hancock in Boston. She was best known for her hobbies – sewing elaborate costumes for community theater, home improvement projects, and hosting summer barbecues at the pool.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, Dec.17 , 2015 from 10 am-12 noon in McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 30 Central St. (off Rt. 123, near State Police Barracks), Norwell Center, followed by a Funeral Service at 12 noon. Interment Mt. Hope Cemetery, Scituate. In lieu of flowers, donations to honor Deanna may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1324 Belmont St., Suite 204-101, Brockton, Massachusetts 02301.
