Obituary

Dennis Michael Coady, 75, died on July 3rd, 2025 at Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital in Jamaica Plain.  Plagued by dementia during the twilight of his life, Dennis passed away seemingly peacefully after being admitted to the hospital on June 22nd due to dementia-related complications.

Born in Milton, Massachusetts, Dennis grew up in Cohasset and Scituate, graduating from Scituate High School in 1968 before attending Worcester Academy.  A dynamic athlete, Dennis excelled at football and track, starring as a halfback and defensive back at both Scituate High School and Worcester Academy.  During his 1969 post-graduate season at Worcester Academy, Dennis tormented the opposition, particularly as a halfback and kick returner.  He was named Most Valuable Player and was highlighted in the November 10th issue of Sports Illustrated for his gridiron accolades.  The following year Dennis attended the University of New Hampshire on a football scholarship and enjoyed similar success.  Throughout his time at U.N.H. he celebrated the camaraderie of his teammates and fraternity brothers, both on and off the field, many of whom became lifelong friends.

Following U.N.H., Dennis began a fifteen-year career in the corporate food service industry, working in operations and sales for Service America and Daka.  In July 1989 Dennis was involved in a crippling automobile accident, rendering him comatose for a period of six weeks.  A resilient man, Dennis miraculously survived and through perseverance, along with the love and grace of his family and friends, he was able to rehabilitate and experience the second half of his life.  He later co-owned Peri's Restaurant in Easton before owning Viking Sports in Brookline, in both cases thoroughly enjoying the time spent with those around him.  Throughout that period Dennis loved coaching and attending his children's athletic events, frequenting shows and movies with his wife and friends, and hurling the occasional pejorative at the television commentators every Sunday in the fall.  Most recently, he adored his three grandchildren – Ella, Chloe and Madison – and valued the time he spent with each of the girls.

Forever smiling, "Denboy" warmed the hearts of others with his outgoing personality, infectious sense of humor and caring nature.  Himself a thirty-three year recovering alcoholic, Dennis spent countless hours helping others suffering from addiction - aiding family, friends and strangers alike on the winding road to recovery.

He was predeceased by his parents, Eunice M. Coady and Francis R. Coady, and his brothers, William (Lee), Francis, Paul, Mark and Peter.  He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary A.; his son, Troy F.; his daughter, Brooke E. Morgan and her husband Ryan; his 3 granddaughters, Ella Morgan, Chloe Morgan and Madison Morgan; his siblings and their spouses, Margaret (Cissie) and Larry Cullivan, Greg and Sue Coady, Lisa Coady and Michael Maso, Sean Coady, and Judy and Don Paul Benzaquin.  In addition, "Uncle Dennis" leaves many nieces and nephews.
