Doris A. (Bradeen) Lavery, age 88, a 64 year resident of Norwell, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2013 surrounded by family. Beloved wife of William F. Lavery, to whom she was the wind beneath his wings. Doris was the devoted mother of Kathleen M. Lavery of Norwell, William J. Lavery and wife, Joy of Norwell, Janeen B. Orcutt and husband Donald of Plympton. She was the adoring grandmother of seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Doris was the sister of Kenneth Bradeen and the late Babe Jackson. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Born in Braintree, Doris attended schools in Braintree before moving to Weymouth and graduating from Weymouth High School, Class of 1943. She worked at the Fore River Shipyard in the office and the Mass. Auto Rating Bureau. She was an active member of the Church Hill United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and served on many committees. Doris was a former Brownie Leader and member of the Pythian Sisters, the YMCA Boston, and the USO Boston. She was an honorary member of the Boston Edison Retirees Assoc. Doris also took great joy in singing with the Opals of Hingham. She loved baking and decorated wedding cakes for many years. She also loved gardening, sewing, painting, and poetry.
Relatives and Friends invited to a Funeral Service on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at 11 am in Church Hill United Methodist Church, 11 Church St., Norwell, MA. Visiting hours Friday, March 22, 2013 from 3-7 pm in McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 30 Central St. (off rt. 123, near State Police Barracks), Norwell Center. Interment Private. In lieu of flowers, donations to honor Doris may be made to the Queen Anne Nursing Center, Activity Fund, 50 Recreation Park Dr., Hingham, MA. 02043.
