IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dorothy Alice
(Dutton) Donahue
May 1, 1925 – May 20, 2024
Dorothy (Dutton) Donahue, 99, of Norwell MA, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 20th, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on May 1, 1925, to Gertrude Alice (Rice) and Harold Gourley Dutton, of Wollaston MA. She had a younger brother, Raleigh Harold Dutton (2008). Dorothy attended Norwell High School and Skidmore College (1948) in Saratoga Springs, NY.
Dorothy, known affectionately as "Grandy" by her family, was a remarkable woman who found joy in the simplest of pleasures and a genuine purpose in helping others near and far. Her passions included playing tennis, sailing, gardening, and spending quality time with family and friends. The family cottage on Panther Pond "Grandy Camp" in Raymond Maine held a special place in Dorothy's heart. It was her favorite place on Earth, where countless cherished memories were made.
Dorothy lost the "love of her life", Douglas Aidan Donahue, over seven years ago, to whom she was married for a robust 69 years. Together, they raised six children: Douglas Aidan, Jr. (Susan), Darby Ann (2001), David Alexander (Sue), Duncan Andrew (Tom Fortier), Dale Alison O'Brien (John), and Daphne Alexandra Hoffman (Peter).
Her grandchildren, Douglas Aidan, III (Lauren), Abigail Mariano (Jon), Peter Hayward (Lauren), Tait Ekblaw, Cailin "Cally" Stewart (Greg), David Alexander, Jr. (Emily), Earle Douglas, Della Burke (Mike), Paige Nolan (Bobby), Monica Beckwith (Ned), Kerry O'Brien, Alexandra "Ali" Caldera (Rob), Will Hoffman, Emily Hoffman, and Peter Hoffman, along with her 11 great-grandchildren, were a constant source of joy, pride and love for Grandy.
Dorothy had a warm and generous spirit, which she shared daily through her frequent acts of kindness. Her true goodness touched the lives of many, creating a ripple effect of positivity. Dorothy's outlook on life was always "a glass full" because "a glass half-full" was not enough and "a glass half-empty" was never on her radar. She leaves a legacy of love, warmth, and virtue that will be cherished for generations.
