Dorothy I. Remick passed away peacefully at home Wednesday March 28th, 2012 after a long & valiant struggle. Known to her friends as "Dottie" & grandsons as "Pookie", she was born in Portland, ME in 1920 to Philip & Bernice "Bunny" Ilsley. She attended Portland High School & graduated from Virginia Intermont College.
She became a flight attendant for Northeast Airlines, now Delta airlines, during World War II. There she met Captain Raymond "Ray" Remick of West Newton, MA. They married & after 8 years in Egypt, MA settled in Cohasset to raise a family.
As a longtime member of the Cohasset Yacht Club, Cohasset Golf Club & Cohasset Indoor Tennis Club, she enjoyed sports thoroughly. She and Ray were founding members of the South Shore Music Circus. As a patron of the arts, she frequented the Boston Symphony Orchestra, South Shore Art Center, Boston City Women's' Club & Cohasset Garden Club. The Remick's generously donated many acres of land for animal conservation to the Town of Cohasset. Dottie was very environmentally protective in matters affecting her small New England town. She volunteered regularly at the Cohasset Consignment Shop & Cohasset Historical Society.
She is predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Ray (Raymond, Sr.) & son-in-law, Keith Sorensen. She is survived by her daughters, Deborah Remick of Cocoa Beach, FL; Diana Sorensen of Simi Valley, CA; step son Ray Remick, Jr., "Sonny" of Monhegan Island, ME; grandsons, Kris & Parker Sorensen & great granddaughter, Ellia Rae. She will be greatly missed. The entire family gives sincere thanks & much appreciation to her dear friend, Lois Silvia, for her care and attention to Dottie in her final months.
A Memorial service will be held Wednesday, May 16th at 11 AM at the First Parish Unitarian Church on Cohasset Common. Both, Ray & Dottie & Dottie's beloved dog, Dolly, will be interred at the Cohasset Central Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate to American Cancer Society or SPCA.
